Family Dog Who Inspired the Theme: Mazel
Location: The Loading Dock in Stamford, CT
This story isn’t about a wedding, but a Bat Mitzvah. And while the Bat Mitzvah girl’s dog wasn’t present, his presence was certainly felt.
The Topf family has a dog with a great name, Mazel (which means “luck”). And if your party theme is going to be something you love – what’s more lovable than your dog! Plus, the Topf’s had the perfect last name to go along with Mazel’s name.
So, at Lyndsey Topf’s Bat Mitzvah celebration, instead of wishing the Bat Mitzvah the traditional “Mazel Tov” – signs at the celebration said “Mazel Topf” – playing on both the Bat Mitzvah’s dog’s name and her last name. By the exit there was a pretzel station which had “Mazel Topf” written in pretzel. And some of the pretzels and dips were served out of dog bowls.
Throughout the party room there were signs, napkins, bags and water bottle labels – all with sketches of Mazel the dog – that said Mazel Topf. And as guests left the party, they received – what else? – “Doggie Bags.”
It was a wonderful evening celebrating Lyndsey, including her love for her dog with the terrific Jewish name. Mazel Topf!
