Before moving to Los Angeles, Richard and Sharon Feldstein, the parents of actor, comedian, writer and filmmaker Jonah Hill, lived in Long Island, New York, and they vacationed in the Catskills – you can’t get much more Jewish than that! After moving to LA, Richard and Sharon had Jonah and then, nine years later, his younger sister Beanie (see “Beanie Feldstein and Jackie”). (Jonah also had an older brother named Jordan, who died of a heart attack at age 40 in 2017.)
Jonah has described his Bar Mitzvah as “magical.” The theme of his Bar Mitzvah party was “Jonah Goes Platinum.”
Hill has appeared in a wide array of movies, including “Superbad,” “Knocked Up,” “21 Jump Street,” “Moneyball” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” He has been nominated for two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, one Screen Actors Guild Award, eight MTV Movie Awards (he won one) and 12 Teen Choice Awards (he won one).
In 2023 Hill starred in “You People,” which he also co-wrote. The move is about an interracial, interfaith couple – Hill plays a white Jewish man who falls in love with a black Muslim woman – and how their families deal with their relationship. Many people in the Jewish community were upset with the movie and disappointed with Hill, pointing out that the movie contained antisemitic tropes.
In January 2021, Jonah adopted a 3-year-old pitbull named Fig. At the time, he posted on Instagram: “Thank you so much @loveleorescue you gave me a massive gift and I appreciate you and the work you and your foster parent volunteers do.”
